SUMMER STAGES 2013

Brundage Park Playhouse proudly announces its 32nd season of Summer Stages, a workshop for young performers ages 8–14. All students must have completed 2nd grade or higher during the 2012/2013 school year.

Our qualified staff will instruct students in acting, music, and dance. Students will also gain performance experience through participation in a different production each session. We offer four two-week sessions. Each session can accommodate a maximum of 2 groups, with approximately 20 students in each group.

This camp takes place at Brundage Park on Carrell Road. Students entering 7th grade or above in the 2013/2014 school year are eligible for our Advanced Performers Workshop, however, students must audition for that camp.

What to Expect During Sessions at BPP’s Summer Stages

At the beginning of each session, students will be divided into groups where they will learn a song and simple movement, which will then be used to “audition” for the directors. After auditions, each student will then be assigned a role and placed in a cast. Students will participate in acting, music, and dance workshops during one part of the day with the other half of the day dedicated to rehearsals for the show. Friday mornings of performance days, dress rehearsals will take place using costumes and props. Each group will have the opportunity to rehearse on the BPP stage.

Performances

What theatrical performance experience would be complete without an audience? At the end of each two-week session we present a production for an audience of parents, relatives and friends. Performances will be held in the theatre each session’s final Friday afternoon at 1:00* or 2:00*, depending on the particular group’s assigned time. Admission is free for these performances.

* Times may be adjusted depending on needs.

Sessions

Sessions will run on the following dates:

Session 1:    July 1– July 12 (no class July 4)

Session 2:    July 15 – July 26

Session 3:    July 29 –August 9

Session 4:    August 12 – August 23

Please try to schedule any personal appointments after camp time.

We cannot guarantee that friends will be in the same group.

Advanced Performers Workshop 2013

Brundage Park Playhouse proudly announces its 32nd season of summer performing arts education with the return of our “Advanced Camp”. The Advanced Performers Workshop, or APW, is a more intensive alternative to our regular Summer Stages program. The three-week session will culminate with a two-show performance weekend, not only for family and friends, but the general public as well!

APW is only open to students who are already 12 years of age or who will be entering 7th –11th grade in the 2013-2014 school year. Admission is by audition/interview only. *Students who have attended APW previously, need not audition.

What to Expect at BPP’s Advanced Performers Workshop…

This camp will take place at the Senior Center on Calais Road, next to the Randolph Library. Much like our regular Summer Stages program, APW students will spend part of their time with us in rehearsal for whatever show they are currently working on, and part of their time in workshops on various aspects of theater arts. Past workshops have included Stage Combat, Improvisation, Shakespeare and more. Due to the more intensive nature of this program, admission is determined by an interview with staff members as well as a voice and movement audition.

Auditions…

Please call the theater at (973) 989-7092 or e-mail vlenyk@randolphnj.org to set up an audition appointment. This audition is part of the learning experience we’re hoping to create for your child. Your child will initially be auditioning for admission to the program. All students will be expected to prepare a song and should be prepared to learn a simple dance combination and cold read from “sides” that will be supplied at the audition. Auditions for specific roles in the camp production will be held during the first week of camp. There is a 20-student limit to the session.

Performances…

What theatrical performance experience would be complete without an audience? At the end of the session we present two performances. Tentatively, performances will be held at 5:30 pm on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at Brundage Park Playhouse on Carrell Road.

Session

The session will run on the following dates from 9:00AM-3:00PM at the Senior Center on Calais Road:

Week 1:        July 1 – July 5 (no camp 7/4)

Week 2:        July 8 – July 12

Week 3:        July 15 – July 19
